The City of Fort Valley is seeking a qualified professional to serve as Finance Director. This position oversees the City’s financial operations, budgeting, payroll administration, and property tax functions, ensuring accurate and timely processing of financial transactions. The Finance Director ensures compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local laws and advises the City Council, City Administrator, and department heads on financial matters.
Qualified applicants must possess a bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, Public Administration, or a related field (master’s degree preferred) and at least five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in government finance, including payroll and property tax administration, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Candidates must possess or be able to obtain a valid Georgia driver’s license and all required professional certifications. A Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Public Finance Officer
(CPFO), or equivalent certification is preferred. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong knowledge of governmental accounting, budgeting, and auditing standards; effective leadership and supervisory skills; and sound analytical, decision-making, and communication abilities.
